Prime Fluid Management, a leader in fluid management solutions across New Zealand’s civil, mining, municipal, agricultural, and industrial sectors, required additional office space that provided a modern aesthetic and low-carbon footprint. Architects Plus was engaged to create a design that would be both functional and visually impressive, blending glazing with exposed timber to create a contemporary yet warm working environment.
Prolam Glulam Beams and Posts were selected for their strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The PL8 H3.2 Beams and PL8 H5 Posts with a sanded and sealed finish are featured both outside and inside the building. The timber frames the exterior, with the beams extending from the overhanding roofline through into the interior, creating a seamless architectural feature that defines the building’s look.
According to builder, Matthew Colville, who also owns the development Prime’s office is located in, the Prolam beams were “a great product to work – reasonably lightweight while achieving large spans”.
“The beams delivered the structural performance we needed for the 14m spans, and provided a cost-effective, eco-friendly solution that was easy to build with,” he says.
H3.2 treated for lasting protection against moisture and insects, and coated with a quality stain during construction, the glulam beams and posts will also stay looking good for longer.
The combination of timber, glazing, and thoughtful detailing has resulted in a modern, inviting commercial space that reflect Prime’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and high-quality outcomes.
“Prolam’s glulam beams and posts gave us the strength and performance we needed to achieve larger spans, while also delivering the clean, modern look the client wanted.”
