Prolam Posts

Sustainably made and cost-effective, Prolam Posts were the perfect choice for a Habitat for Humanity project in Nelson.

Habitat for Humanity Nelson provides a range of programmes aimed at building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in the Nelson Tasman region.

In June 2023, the local organisation completed one of its largest projects to date with the support of the New Zealand Government’s Progressive Home Ownership fund – the construction of 14 rent-to-buy homes in Stoke, Nelson.

We are pleased to say that Prolam Posts were used to construct pergolas over the outdoor patio areas of the homes, where residents will be able to relax and spend time with their families, friends and neighbours while enjoying some fresh air and sunshine.

Made for the outdoors, builder Andy Wells from Tasman Homes said Prolam’s glulam timber posts were the ‘go to’ solution for the project for a number of reasons.

“The glulam posts work well for pergolas due to their straightness and dimensional stability,” Andy says. “Prolam’s install guides and fixing options also make the build easy.”

Each pergola only took Andy around a day to complete, and they have been stained with oil to provide a natural timber finish.

Glulam timber was also an eco-friendly option for the build being made from New Zealand renewable plantation pine.

"Glulam timber is my first choice for pergolas due to their straightness and stability. Prolam's install guides and fixing options make the build fast and easy, too."
