2023 NZ Timber Design Awards Finalists

We’re excited to announce that Prolam has been named a Finalist in the prestigious Timber Design Centre 2023 NZ Timber Design Awards.

The Prolam PLX20TM Beam is one of five finalists in the Innovative Timber Manufacturing & Technology category which recognises the latest advances in New Zealand’s timber design and construction capability.

We’re incredibly proud to be in the running for this year’s awards. The PLX20TM Beam was a true team effort and is testimony to not only our skill in glulam timber manufacturing but our commitment to producing high quality, innovative and sustainably made products that elevate building design and simplify the construction process.

A breakthrough glulam structural timber solution, the PLX20TM Beam was developed to meet the demand for a high strength timber beam due to reduced availability of high structural grade feedstock.

Central to its innovative nature, and pivotal to its effectiveness as a structural timber solution, is the PLX20TM Beam’s ‘hybrid’ design which features a flat steel bar inserted into the top and bottom laminates.

Up to 40 per cent lighter than their steel equivalents and with an increased spanning capability compared to traditional timber beams, the PLX20TM Beam has added a new dimension to the design of architectural features in residential and commercial buildings ranging from garage lintels, floor or ridge beams, and rafters.

The PLX20TM Beam’s lightweight construction also ensures it is faster, easier and safer to install, saving time and money with no extra assembly, equipment or extra labour required for installation.

The winners of the 2023 Timber Design Awards will be announced at a gala dinner at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland on 2 November 2023.
